How I Ended Up With Leica M11

I used Fujifilm X-series cameras for about ten years before I tried the medium format Fujifilm GFX system—and I fell in love. The look of the photos and the depth were just amazing.

BUT… my goal has always been to carry a camera everywhere, and with the GFX, that's just not possible. It’s too big and heavy. (Except for the new fixed-lens model—but a full-frame 28mm isn’t for me.) So, I started looking for other alternatives and decided to give Leica a try.

My first digital Leica camera was the Leica M10, but I have to admit—I never quite got along with it. I wanted to love it, but in the end, I sold it. The light meter, poor battery life, and a few other things just didn’t suit me.

After a while, I still felt the urge to give digital Leica another try, especially since I love my analog Leica. This time, I was looking at the Leica M11.

When I saw the stunning Glossy Black version at the Leica Store in Cyprus, I was sold. (For me, the look of the camera matters too—it makes me want to carry it around like an accessory, which in turn makes me take more photos.)

And the experience with the M11? Amazing!
The biggest issue I had with the M10 was the light meter, but the one in the M11 is just great. Every time I press the shutter, I know the photo will be perfectly exposed.

Combined with the excellent battery life and USB-C charging, I feel like I’ve found the perfect camera—beautiful, compact, feels great in the hand, and with no need to carry extra batteries or a charger.

I mainly carry it around with the amazing Leica Summicron-C 40mm f/2 lens. But if I really need that medium format look I was talking about, I’ll mount the Voigtländer Nokton 40mm f/1.2—and it's damn close!
